How the scoring works

Each answer adjusts your fit score for each specialty using weights calibrated against practicing-surgeon data. Likert questions (1–5 scale) use a "center-on-3, scale-outward" model where extreme answers contribute more than mild leans. Direct-choice questions about your favorite anatomy or patient population carry the most weight. After all questions, scores are normalized to a comparable scale and your top-3 are surfaced with the full ranking below.

Honest scope: This is calibrated for orthopedic surgery residents choosing fellowship. We're building tracks for IM→fellowship, ENT, general surgery, MS3→residency, and others — they're in development. If you're outside ortho, the questionnaire still works but the specialty list won't cover your decisions yet.

What you get at the end

A ranked list of all 11 specialties with your top-3 highlighted, bar-chart visualization of how each specialty scored, and the top 3 questions that drove each specialty's score (so you can sanity-check the result against your gut).

It's a discernment aid, not the decision. Use your top-3 to focus your research — read those specialty-specific resources, do an away rotation, talk to attendings in each. The only person who can pick your specialty is you. The questionnaire just gets you to the right three to evaluate.
